Perhaps you are planning a wedding ceremony, outdoor tablescape photo, or birthday photo shoot.
A fun project that is non merely affordable, it is pretty easy for the about inexperienced DIY-er to do.
Check out the DIY on my blog.
*Disclaimer: This post was sponsored by Worx Tools. All opinions are my own.
I learned this technique concluding yr when I was scrambling to notice a baker for a fall outdoor tablescape photo shoot I was doing.
And so I decided to create my own fake cute cake instead!
I am so excited to show you how this 1 turned out.
Materials
- Styrofoam Rounds
- Hot Glue
- Styrofoam Glue
- Foam Brush
- Lightweight Spackling
- Plastic Putty Knife
- Cake Decorations
- Cake Stand (Optional for Staging)
- Acrylic Paint: White, Yellow, Orange
You lot can cull to substitute brands or arts and crafts supplies when necessary.
Your Cake Rounds
I buy a set of four Styrofoam rounds off of Amazon, simply you tin can pick these up at whatever craft store.
You lot tin also cull any size or shape for your cake rounds, at that place are then many options.
Applying the Joint Chemical compound
Use the All Purpose Joint compound and apply to the styrofoam forms with a spackling pocketknife.
Let Them Dry
Permit your cakes to completely dry. I simply needed iii cakes for this project, so I will just salvage 1 for a rainy day!
*Side Note: If you lot find holes or areas that demand repairing, apply another layer of joint compound and let it dry out before painting.
You lot will meet a slight colour change betwixt wet and dry areas. I allow to dry out overnight.
Gather Paint Sprayer Materials
I am so excited that I have the new Maker X Dremel style tool from Worx Tools to utilise to airbrush this false cake.
Paint Your Cakes
Nosotros wanted to decorate this faux cake for Halloween to look like a piece of processed corn. So each tier was a unlike color.
*Side Notation: Even if you lot desire to leave your cake white, I would recommend applying i-2 coats of white paint. Just to give it a brighter, cleaner looking finish. The joint compound does dry white, but information technology is very deadening.
Besides if you desire to practise a naked cake then I recommend painting your ake with a tan or brown paint before you spackle.
Y'all volition lightly coat the cake with spackling, non full coverage.
Gum Your Cakes Together
Use the Styrofoam Mucilage to glue your block forms together.
Make certain they are centered when you place each tier.
I prefer to do this later on spackling the cake it is easier to do each cake separately in my opinion.
Y'all could do earlier you paint totally your preference.
Permit'southward Decorate
Time to Decorate the cake! We used processed corn, autumn florals, and some acorns we found at the park.
Just dab a bit of hot glue on the bottom of the candy.
Press the candy on to the cake for only a few seconds each.
Nosotros decided to but go on the superlative two tiers of the cake.
Just continue calculation candy or decor effectually your unabridged cake tiers.
We used a toothpick to make some small holes at the top of the cake for the florals to be inserted into.
At this betoken we wanted to add together a few florals and acorns to the top and side of the cake to balance it out.
